Conspiracies have always intrigued me. I’m not sure if it was growing up listening to my cousin’s father talking about them or my recent fascination with Shane Dawson’s series, but I’ve always wondered about the validity of them all. There was a point in my life that I would just look up and always see a contrail in the sky. Yes, these contrails are just mere trails of condensed water and exhaust…but what if they’re more?

The first movement, Air, is about these very contrails that some think have chemicals to control the masses. This movement takes the listener through the innocent and naive to the potentially more-sinister uses of these aircraft. Of course, I mean all of this in jest, but it does make for a good foundation for a piece. I plan on making this a longer work that will build on what these ‘chemtrails’ do, and how we are affected by them.

Chemtrail is for Bass Clarinet, Cello, Two Percussionists (5.0 Marimba, Vibraphone, Glockenspiel) and Electronics. It was premiered by The Uptown Collective on February 23, 2018.
