Hi Friends!Woooooooooow. I am rather late on this newsletter, huh? Well, there are a million reasons for that, and I think itās warranted with what Iām about to share with you. Since March 29, 2025, my life has been absolutely upside down. No, this isnāt exactly breaking news. But still. If youāve been a subscriber or even remotely followed me for the last time, you know what happened. And then it happened again. Such is life. For all of March, I had been talking to my lovely wife, Iris, about what the theme of this monthās newsletter could be. I had come up with the title, āIntermission is Over.ā In her brilliance, she suggested calling it āThe Great Pause.ā I thought it was a great idea, but I immediately thought of a more musical-related term: The Grand Pause. The musical definition of āGrand Pauseā is a measured, deliberate, and dramatic silence in music where everyone in the performance stops playing. Over the last year, Iāve had significantly less compositional output and music-making compared to the previous fifteen. Once again, thatās 100% warranted. When moving back to the Rio Grande Valley (which is originally where weāre from), we didnāt know how long we would be down there. It could be a few years. More than ten. Who knows? It was an open-ended time. for the foreseeable future. ā¦until we could set our sights on moving away again. This time for good. And hereās where the idea of āGrand Pauseā comes from. While we never expected to leave so quickly, we see this time of tending to othersā lives as a profound but quick intermission in the grand scheme of things. So without further adoā¦ drum roll please I am so excited to announce that weāve moved back to Austin! I am so thankful to be back. It honestly feels like we never left. We moved just outside of Austin proper to the adjacent Pflugerville. We are so thankful to be back in an apartmentāone which feels more like, well, us. Itās a cute unit that weāve already customized with smart lights, all of my favorite art prints from post wook and only just this past weekend have cleared out all of our u-haul boxes. (That must be a new record, considering weād never unpacked some boxes after moving from Austin to the RGV.) Nevertheless, we are back and here for good. Thanks for following along with my Grand Pause in the RGV. I look forward to picking my creative output back up back here in Austin. And if youāre wondering what the last piece I wrote in that house was, it was Escape Room. That wasnāt intentional, but itās rather hilarious if you ask me.
